LINCOLN CHURCH OF CHRIST
The church of Christ was established in the city of Jerusalem on the first Jewish Pentecost following the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ as recorded in the book of Acts chapter Two. The congregation located in Lincoln, Missouri U.S.A. was organized in the spring of 1963. The present building where the church meets to worship was built in 2002-2003 by members of the Lincoln congregation, with financial assistance from brethren throughout the united states, and physical help from brothers and sisters from several states working with the “SOJOURNERS,” a volunteer organization comprised of retired Christians from churches of Christ who spend their time helping small congregations such as Lincoln in whatever capacity needed.
At the Lincoln church of Christ we use only the Bible in our teaching program, believing that in it God has given us all things that one needs to go to heaven (II Peter 1:3; II Timothy 3:16-17). All printed material is thus studied closely to insure that it is exactly in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ, which is the only doctrine accepted by the Almighty God of heaven and earth (2 John 9-11). We take very seriously the warning of the apostle John that “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine has both the Father and the Son.” Those who teach for doctrine anything different than that taught by Jesus and His apostles cause division, and religious division is directly opposed to the will of God and the prayer of Jesus Christ Himself (John 17:20-23; 1 Corinthians 1:10-13).
The Lincoln church of Christ is a small congregation moving forward with great faith. In our assemblies you will find true Christian love extended to all as we join hearts and souls in worshipping “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24), doing only those things found and authorized in the worship assemblies of the first Christians. On the first day of each week (Sunday) we partake of the Lord’s Supper and teach from God’s Holly Word (Acts 20:7), we give as we have been prospered (I Corinthians 16:1-2), we sing “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” in praise to our God, and His Son Jesus (Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5:19). Our singing is A Cappella; no mechanical instruments will be used, and we join hearts in prayer to God (Acts 2:42). These are the only acts of worship authorized in the New Testament church of Christ.
The terms of entrance into the church of Christ are set forth in the Holy Bible. One must have faith (believe) Jesus to be the Son of God (John 8:24); repent of all sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30); confess before others that belief (Matthew 10:32; Romans 10:9-10), and be baptized (immersed) for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16). When one completes their obedience to these commands the Lord Jesus will then add them to His church (Acts 2:47).
Our goal is to restore New Testament Christianity in our community just as it was first established, and practiced by the inspired disciples of the early church. This can only be done by going back beyond all writings of uninspired men to the Bible and “speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent.” Let us have a “thus saith the Lord” for all we say and do (Colossians 3:17). Let us “do Bible things in Bible ways and call Bible things by Bible names.”
